The euphoria apart.....all was aptly outlived, except for Safety Branch Bangalore Division that came out with a remarkable realisation in the wake of the unfortunate PENUKONDA Accident involving train # 16591 DN Express in a rear collision with the stabled MNGT N Goods resulting in loss of lives .

Dislodged bogey incident points at the apathy of railways: HC

Coming down heavily on the railways, the Kerala High Court on Monday observed that submissions regarding the dislodged bogey incident have made clear the apathy of the railways towards Kerala. The railways had blamed ‘preserved fish’ and ‘cattle’ as the reasons for the dislodgement of the bogies.

China to invest heavily on railway infrastructure

China's railway infrastructure investment will maintain rapid growth this year, with 600billion yuan to 630 billion yuan to be invested, several industry insiders said.

According to the 12th Five-Year Plan, China will spend over 1.3 trillion yuan buildingmore than 20,000 kilometers of railways from 2013 to 2015. 
Southern Rly cancels trains

The Southern Railway has cancelled several trains plying between Rameswaram and other destinations across Tamil Nadu, due to the damage to the century-old Pamban bridge which was hit by a barge.
As many as 10 trains connecting Rameswaram-Madurai, Tiruchirapalli-Rameswaram, Rameswaram-Kanniyakumari were cancelled due to the damage of a pier of Pamban bridge, Southern railway said in a statement. Yesterday, the bridge was damaged.

Fog hits flights, rail traffic in Delhi

After a brief spell of sunshine, a thick blanket of fog enveloped the national  capital on Monday morning affecting flight and train operations even as temperature continued to rise slightly much to the delight of Delhiites.

According to Met officials, the minimum temperature in the city was three degree above normal at 10.6 degree Celsius, while the maximum was recorded at 21 degree Celsius.

KOLKATA, 14 JAN: In a not so common incident, a long distance passenger train and 14 EMU local trains got stranded en-route for about 25 minutes on an average after the on-duty railway personnel posted at the Rishra level crossing gate on Howrah-Bandel Main line section could not close the gate for over half an hour due to traffic snarls caused by road vehicles.

Cairo train derailment leaves 19 dead


A military train carrying army recruits has derailed south of Egypt's capital, Cairo, killing 19 people and injuring more than 100, officials say.
The train was heading to an army camp in Cairo when a carriage became detached and crashed into a goods train in the Badrashin area of Giza.

A cartoon booklet printed and circulated by Safety Department, Bnagalore division of South Western Railway, which describes that the accidents are caused due to Running Staff not availing proper rest since wife ask to go shopping and child ask to play cricket with father, is incorrect. The booklet does not tell about extended crew link, continuous night duties, not sanctioning of legitimate rest, periodic rest leave etc. They are silent about the SPAD Minutes circulated by Railway board.

Network Rail in 10-year low carbon power deal with EDF Energynews
The operator of Britain's railway infrastructure, Network Rail, has struck a 10-year deal with the French-owned EDF Energy to provide low-carbon nuclear power to the railways.
According to International Business Times, Under the £3-billion contract, EDF would supply around 3.2 terrawatt hours of energy per year to the railway network for the next decade, while providing low-carbon energy generated from its eight nuclear power stations.

East Coast Railway fines 2,040 people for spitting
