| | | As part of efforts to translate into reality the ambitious vision of
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to start bullet trains in India, the
Railway Ministry has commissioned a study on a high speed railway line
between New Delhi and Chennai, to be conducted by China's High Speed
Rail company. Railway Board last week issued an order to conduct a
feasibility study on a high speed Rail line between New Delhi and
Chennai to the China Rail High speed (CRH). Assisting the CRH in its
study will be Rail Vikas Nigam. Getting a feasible study on the
route from the CRH is part of an agreement signed between India and
china during the visit of Chinese Predident Xi Jinping, when the two
countries had agreed to collaborate towards developing high speed train
on single railway route. Sources said after construction of the
high speed rail on this 2,182 km long route, the journey that is
presently covered by Rajdhani Express in 28 hours will take just seven
hours. Carrying out a feasibility study on the long route will take
time of six months to one year. This will be the longest high
speed railway, which is why this high speed Railway project will be the
costliest High speed Railway project. While the cost of
construction of a normal railway route is Rs five crore, the estimated
expenditure on the high speed Railway will be Rs 120 crore to Rs 126
crore. MORE UNI AR PR 1016 NNNN
