The All-India CPI-IW for July, 2014 increased by 6 points and pegged at 252 (two hundred and fifty two). 
The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly CPI-IW stood at 7.23 per cent for July, 2014 as compared to 6.49 per cent for the previous month and 10.85 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year. Similarly, the Food inflation stood at 8.11 per cent against 5.88 per cent of the previous month and 14.10 per cent during the corresponding month of the previous year.

DA as on 1st August 2014 is 108.48%.

The Japanese are already working on a feasibility study for the Shinkansen network on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai corridor, the results of which will be shared with the Indian side in the run-up to the PM’s visit to Japan this weekend. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to make a strong pitch for India to buy the Shinkansen high speed network. Kyoto, where Modi lands on Saturday, has the best known Shinkansen connection with Tokyo.

Fire damages records at Southern Railway HQ



CHENNAI: Fire broke out at three places in the city, including a store room in the Southern Railway headquarters on Poonamallee High Road, on Friday, damaging equipment and files and keeping fire and rescue services personnel busy. A leading textile showroom on Ranganathan Street in T Nagar and a software company in Guindy were the others affected. No one was injured as the accidents occurred early in the morning.

Railways Takes Steps to Further Bring Down its Operating Ratio
It is a continuous endeavour of the Indian Railways to bring down the operating ratio by controlling expenditure and increasing revenues. The Operating Ratio of the Indian Railways was 94.9% in 2011-12, 90.2 per cent in 2012-13 and 93.5 per cent in 2013-14(Provisional). Budget Estimates 2014-15 envisage an operating ratio of 92.5 per cent.

Railways to Eliminate 890 Level Crossings During 2014-15 Indian Railway has planned for elimination of 890 level crossings across the country during 2014-15, out of which 730 are unmanned & 160 are manned level crossings. These 890 level crossings also include 39 level crossings in the State of Jharkhand out of which, 29 are unmanned and 10 are manned level crossings.

Motorman forgets to stop fast train at Byculla station

Byculla: In a freak incident, a motorman completely forgot to halt his train at the Byculla station on the Central Railway. As a result, the fast train went directly to CST from Dadar and commuters had to catch another train from the CST to go to Byculla. Railway officials said that the motorman was extremely lucky that he was not manhandled by irate commuters.
