New device to prevent collision of trains now

NEW DELHI : Accidents
caused by two trains running on the same track can be prevented through
a light depending resistor instrument that will automatically slow them
down to avoid the crash.
The gadget has been developed by budding
scientist Utkarsh Sharma of Mathura who is just 14, studying in class
VIII. It consists of LED lights fixed on the front and back of the
electric train, with a light-dependent resistor that gets activated to
cut off power to the two trains and they automatically slow down.
He is among 35 young students selected
in a national competition to present their projects at the National
Level Exhibition and Project Competition that has been organised here
since 2008 by the Ministry of Science and Technology.
The exhibition thrown open to public for
two days from Tuesday also has another innovation by Ayush Khanna, a
class X student from Ludhiana for reducing road accidents and
automatically charging car batteries.
It involves construction of solar
power-based roads with three layers of base plate, then power generating
plate with micro-processor sensors and the top an ordinary layer.
Sunlight will produce electricity under
this road while the induction system will automatically charge the
batteries of the vehicles plying on the road.
Khanna’s project also has a control room
that will monitor every vehicle as soon as it comes on this road and
the microprocessor sensors will automatically send signals to the
control room if two vehicles come close to alert their drivers to avoid
accident.
