Third entrance to City railway station to be ready by December
Nov 04, 2016, Bengaluru, DHNS

The South Western Railway (SWR) has taken up the work of constructing the third entrance for the Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna (KSR) City Railway Station in Majestic.

The entrance, which is coming up right opposite the Kempegowda interchange metro station, will have a separate ticket counter and parking facilities.

Rs 1.5 crore budget

Sanjiv Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), SWR, told DH that a third entrance was necessary as the other two entrances saw huge rush during peak hours.

“We have already started the work, which is estimated to cost around Rs 1.5 crore. The entrance as well as the ticket counter will be thrown open for public use by December,” he said. SWR also plans to outsource the maintenance of the parking lot.

The main as well as the second entrance of the station are congested and unkept.
Krishna Prasad, retired central government employee and regular traveller, was happy with the news of the third entrance. “It will be of much help for people, especially those from south Bengaluru. The two existing entrances are surrounded by hawkers and autorickshaws, with little space for pedestrian movement. Through the new entrance, people can directly get to platform-1,” he said.

Foot overbridge

At the moment, Metro commuters have to take the dirty subway from the railway station side or risk their life crossing the road at the two ends. Although Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has proposed to construct a foot overbridge, there has been little progress.

Agarwal promised to provide space to erect the foot overbridge at the third entrance.
“We do not have funds to take up the work on our own. If BMRCL is ready to undertake the work, we will provide space,” he said. BMRCL managing director Pradeep Singh Kharola, on his part, said he would take up the matter with the SWR shortly.
