High Speed Rail Corporation of India Limited is holding a study on developing high speed rail projects in the country.

Under Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, the corporation will study technical aspects of the project and submit a detailed report to the Railway Ministry, Vijayawada Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashok Kumar said while responding to a question on high speed train connectivity mooted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu a few months ago.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Kumar said a separate Railway Protection Force wing with over 132 trained women has been formed for the security of women passengers in trains in suburban areas. The Ministry has chalked out action plans for installing surveillance cameras in coaches either in New Delhi and Mumbai on pilot basis. National Institute of Design is coming up with different models to give a new look to compartments.

He said the Vijayawada railway station would be offering Wi-Fi facility to passengers shortly. The station would be the first in AP to provide the facility free of cost up to the first 30 minutes and charge for the subsequent usage is being worked out.

“We have already made some changes to small ladders fixed to berths in first class AC coaches in Gautami express for the convenience of passengers,” he explained.
