THANE: Central Railway fast trains to and from Mumbai are running late following a rail fracture reported between Thane and Diva early this morning. The railways have imposed speed restrictions on the stretch, following which trains are running at restricted speed thus affecting their punctuality.

Commuters faced a harrowing time crossing the stretch in the morning. At about 7:45am, the rail fracture was detected on the Up fast line to Mumbai right outside the Parsik tunnel. Traffic on this line was immediately diverted on the Up slow line for nearly an hour. Following this, schedules of all trains to Mumbai were affected by nearly 30 minutes.

Railway officials said the situation is being looked into and the stretch was opened for traffic within an hour. Trains have been operated at restricted speeds of about 30 kmph on the stretch for the major part of the day. This is likely to result in delayed schedules in both directions throughout the day.
