Two loco pilots of Mayiladuthurai-bound Jan Shatabdi Express were injured when a peacock smashed into the windshield of their cabin on Wednesday .The bird hit took place when the train was passing through Pasur near Karur.

The train was delayed by 20 minutes as a result. The drivers sustained injuries from the broken pieces of the windshield. The bird died inside the drivers'cabin.

The injured drivers were given first aid and taken to a hospital in Karur.

At 9.30am, co-driver Naga rajan and trainee Karthik were inside the cabin when the incident occurred. The train was halted at Karur railway station.

The dead peacock was handed over to forest officials by railway police officers.

Sources said the impact of the collision was so extreme as the train was travelling at a high speed.

This is the second such incident at the Trichy division in recent times.

Three months ago Chennai-bound Vaigai Express was hit by a peacock.

The peacock had got entangled in the wheels of the train as it entered a station.Peacocks are found in large numbers in Pasur, on the outskirts of Karur.
