...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................

The Railways have decided to implement the biometric attendance procedure for all its employees by electronic fingerprints and Aadhar card details.

Currently, attendance is through signing in in a register.

Card system is adopted in most of the Railway workshops.

Central government’s government employees welfare department had ordered that the attendance system with fingerprints and Aadhar card details should be implemented from 26th January in all public departments.

As per this order, railways decided to implement this scheme. Railways have asked the regional general managers to confirm that all the employees have got their Aadhar cards.

In the 1st phase, this attendance procedure will be implemented in Regional Railway Head Offices, Workshops and plants, maintenance departments, Kolkata Metro, Lucknow Railway format and research.

The regional managers have been instructed to avail help from the National Information Technology Centre in implementation. As the departments have been rather slow, the system was not implemented as scheduled on 26th January. Hence, Railways have revised the date for implementation as 1st April.
