The assistant loco pilot (ALP) of the 56304 Nagercoil-Kottayam passenger was seriously injured in stone-pelting by miscreants between Sasthamcotta and Karunagapally on Thursday.
C.P. Vijayakrishnan, the 35-year-old ALP from Kollam, suffered serious injuries in his right eye and was rushed to a local hospital in Karunagapally and later to a private eye hospital in Kollam. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. when the train was moving along the Sasthamcotta-Karunagapally stretch.
The window of the locomotive was shattered and the glass splinters struck the right eye of the ALP. Railway sources said the stone was reportedly hurled from the Thiruvananthapuram-bound Kerala Express. The passenger train was about to enter the platform. Despite being hit by the stone the ALP drove the train up to Karunagapally railway station along with the loco pilot
