ALL INDIA DIESEL LOCO SEMINAR AT NEW GUWAHATI
DLS NGC, as the Shed is referred in short, is the easternmost Locomotive Maintenance Shed of the country catering to passenger and freight traffic in the North-eastern and Eastern part of India. It was initially set up as a MG loco satellite shed in 1962. Diesel Loco Shed developed into full fledged shed in June 1979 with holding of 50 meter gauge locomotives. Unification of gauge after 1993 to Broad Gauge between Lumding and Guwahati brought end to MG locomotives, which were shifted to Lumding Diesel Shed and New Guwahati Diesel Shed became a BG loco shed. Presently, the shed has loco holding of 120 which includes 2600 to 3300 horse power locomotives. The Shed, spread over an area of about 50 acres, has repair bay capacity of 15 locos and man power of about 1000 Engineers and artisans. The Shed also manages satellite sheds at Guwahati Station, Kamakhya Station and Dibrugarh to ensure instant troubleshooting of locomotives in NF Railway.
