First Pvt Cargo Train to Chug off Tomorrow
KOCHI: The first private cargo special train from Kerala will commence service on Wednesday.
The train to Moga near Ludhiana in Punjab will be flagged off from Chalakkudy railway station by Southern Railway chief commercial manager Sarala Balagopalan at 9.45 am on Wednesday.
The train service will be operated by AVG Logistics Private Limited. It will have stoppage at Erode, Bangalore and Delhi.
It will be operated on ‘round-trip’ basis, with a frequency of weekly one service.
The new service will facilitate the movement of agricultural and industrial products from Kerala to Delhi, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Rajasthan and western UP.
“The train has 21 compartments, with a total capacity of 468 tonnes per week. This will ensure sufficient loading space for the users, with optimal transit performance.
The train loading will be handled by AVG Logistics, in collaboration with the Central Railside Warehouse Company (CRWC). AVG Logistics will actively involve in cargo consolidation, loading and unloading of the train by providing door-to-door service to customers, virtually covering the ‘cargo movement network’ from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” a press release stated.
“This cargo train services will cater to the needs of the industry and trade sectors for transporting products Like rubber, cashew, pepper, industrial powder, raw materials and food products in bulk, at competitive costs,” it said.
