Press Trust of India  |  Vadodara

A six months old lion cub was run over by a goods train near Uchaiya village in Amreli district today.

The incident took place at around 5.30 in the morning.

A senior forest official said that it was possible that a four to five lions were crossing the tracks at the time.

This is the third such incident in the area in the last eight months.

In September 2013, a cub was run over by a train in the same area, while two lionesses, one of them pregnant, were run over at a spot near Pipavav port in Amreli district last month.

A report of the incident had been sent to the Pipavav Railway Corporation Ltd, which looks after the 271-km-long railway line connecting the Pipavav port with Surendranagar, the official said.
