An inter-divisional safety seminar was organised by Palakkad and Thiruvananthapuram divisions of Southern Railway at the Shoranur Railway station on Saturday.
Quoting Piyush Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad division, a press release here advised the supervisory officials to pay more attention to unmanned level crossings. They were asked to conduct inspections at unmanned level crossings, and to check the visibility and surface there. “If these things are in order accidents at unmanned level crossings will drastically come down,” he said.
Rajesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, Thiruvananthapuram division, said Railway employees should give utmost importance to safety. He said the combined safety seminars would help both divisions to clarify the safety problems arising in their divisions.
Manu, Assistant Signal and Telecommunication Engineer, Ernakulam, said the ‘data logger’ equipment in the Tailways records all activities that take place in the limits of a particular station. C. P. Surendranath, Safety Counsellor at Palakkad division, presented a case study on derailment of coaches.
K.S. Kumaraswamy, Senior Divisional Safety Officer, Thiruvanathapuram division, made a presentation on safety at level crossing with special reference to Southern Railways, the release added.
