Top Railways officials under CBI scanner

The CBI has registered two cases against senior officials of the Railway Board, Central Excise officials in West Bengal, and two private firms for allegedly causing a loss of over Rs 1,000 crore to the government exchequer by making false declarations in transportation of iron ore and its end use.

Those named include director of Railway Movement Satyaki Nath, former director of Railway Board Hiresh Meena, office superintendent of Railway Movement Sushanta Das Gupta. The two private companies — Rashmi Cement Pvt Ltd, Jhargram, and Rashmi Metallic Pvt Ltd, Kharagpur — are based in West Bengal.
The CBI carried out searches in 32 places, including premises of Railways officials and residences of its directors. The agency seized Rs 9 lakh in cash, hard disks, laptops and miscellaneous files, said a CBI official.
