Tunnel No.12 of Lumding–Silchar GC project completed
Silchar (SCL): In a major feat of 2013–14, the Construction Organisation
of N.F.Railway has successfully completed work for yet another tunnel,
tunnel No. 12 in the Lumding – Silchar gauge conversion which is an
important milestone. The length of the tunnel is 590 mt and is situated
between chainage 113094m & 113684m. on Jatinga–Lumpur–Harangajao
section. This D shaped tunnel is 5.20 mt. width in straight alignment
& 5.53 mt. in curved alignment. The work of this tunnel was started
in 2006 & due to several Geological Problems; work did not progress
well initially. However during 2012–14, the work of remaining portion of
the tunnel could progress well & now it has been opened. The
balance work of tunnel i.e. benching, lining & invert will be
completed by July 2014 & this tunnel will be available for track
linking by August 2014.
This is one of the 17 tunnels in the
entire alignment of Lumding–Silchar gauge conversion project having
total of 11168 running meters out of which with tunnel no.12 tunneling
work for 10486 mt. has been completed. The longest and most difficult
tunnel in the section is tunnel no.10 at Haflong which is 3235 mt. in
length work in which is progressing satisfactorily.
Other works like land acquisition, earth
filling, construction of major and minor bridges, road over bridge,
road under bridge, station buildings etc are going on satisfactorily.
Track linking is also in progress. Present overall progress of work is
80%. This was stated in a press release.
