The South Central Railway (SCR) has awarded seven employees for averting rail accidents
Many rail men especially loco pilots, station managers and gatemen avert rail accidents by raising an alarm after noticing problems, but many go unnoticed. However, the South Central Railway (SCR) decided to recognise these unsung heroes by presenting ‘Man of the Month’ awards to seven employees in the Zone.
K Ramesh Kumar was given awards for acting promptly and taking all safety precautions while passing through the gate. V Venkatesan, another loco pilot while on duty on Train No. 17488 Tirumala Express noticed a ‘jerk on run’ and stopped the train out of course. Later, it was found that two sleepers were crushed on the track.
A senior railway official said that this act not only helped avert a major mishap, but also acts as an example for other staff. Shambu Kumar, Asstant Station Manager/Whirgaon, while exchanging ‘all-right’ signals for a Goods Train noticed ‘Hot Axle’ and alerted the crew, who backed the train and detached the wagon.
K Buchendor, Engineering Gateman/Mahabubnagar, while on duty between Sriramnagar and Wanaparthy Road found the Empty Goods Train passing through level crossing gate and observed smoke and flames from a wagon. He promptly alerted the crew who cleared the section with walking speed and the wagon was detached.
YC Ramanjaneyulu, Pointsman/Rayala Cheruvu observed that smoke and flames were coming from under the wagon of a Goods Train passing through the station. He promptly alerted the crew who stopped and backed the train to Rayala Cheruvu for detaching the wagon.
D Anil Kumar, Asstant Station Manager/Manubolu, on receipt of the message from Loco Pilot of Train No. 17488 Tirumala Express acted quickly to stop the train movements, informed all concerned to restore the track.
