NEW DELHI: In order to prevent accidents due to track failures, Railways is coming out with a modern track maintenance module with a state-of-the-art technology to detect rail fracture in advance.

The track maintenance module is fully computerised and the system will be operational on the entire rail network shortly, Railway Board Member (Engineering) V K Gupta said here today.

There were a few accidents in the recent past which were caused by track failures.

Besides, temperatures of the rails is also being monitored through the system, he said.
The rails get expanded sometime after certain temperature which causes malfunctioning of the track.

The new system has been developed by Railways in-house and it will also be used on rail bridges over the rivers also.

Gupta further said water levels of certain rivers are constantly being monitored and steps are being taken to receive water level alerts in the system.

Railways has undertaken these measures to strengthen the safety aspects.
