The Integral Coach Factory on Saturday released the first pictures of the air-conditioned local train being manufactured for Mumbai. The train is expect ed to arrive in the city by October this year. After a series of trials, it will be commissioned into service before March 2016.
Listing its features, Western Railway officials said the much-awaited--and delayed -air-conditioned train's coaches are connected by vestibules, and will have two AC units per coach. It will run between Churchgate and Borivali, and initially, 12 services are planned per day. Costing around Rs 43 crore, the train has seating arrangement similar to existing local trains currently running in Mumbai. It is the country's first air-conditioned EMU train and was announced in the Rail Budget for 2012-13.Though it was expected to be in service by March 2013, red tape and delay in design issues delayed its launch.
The railways have been working on a fare table for the trains and officials said it could be at par with the AC chair car fare structure with the options of availing weekly, fortnightly or monthly passes.
