Electric, diesel multiple unit trains needed: Parsekar

PANAJI : Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar has demanded electric multiple unit (EMU) or diesel multiple unit (DMU) trains from Pernem to Canacona with the Union Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu.Speaking at the concluding session of the ‘Elets Knowledge Exchange’ in presence of the Union Minister, Parsekar stated that due to huge pressure on the roads, an alternative convenient travel from north to south of Goa is needed.

He said, “Goa with a 14 lakh population has more than 10 lakh vehicles leading to travel congestion and accidents. At least 2 EMUs or DMUs from Pernem to Canacona in a day will help to ease travel congestion on roads”.

He said Goa, which is known for tourism hospitality, would want to develop a brand Goa in the IT industry.

Speaking at the function, Railways Minister Prabhu said that Goa should become a destination for software developers. With new business plan and high employment prospects, Prabhu said, “Goa will be the next growth story with IT”.

Prabhu said that the e-governance had a long way to be scaled. “We have not even touched the surface of e-governance,” he added. To a question on the subject of WiFi connectivity on the railway stations and trains, he replied that the project has taken off and process for initiating the connectivity with the help of private companies on revenue sharing basis is in the pipeline.

He said that IT industry should focus on product development on real time basis and not just work late evening hours to serve someone at their time. Prabhu suggested that communication technology and information technology should collaborate as communication information technology.
