4 feared dead as 7 coaches of Muri Express derail in UP’s Kaushambi

New Delhi: At least fours passengers were feared dead when 7 coaches of Jammu Tawi bound Muri Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh's Kaushambi district today afternoon.

Initial reports suggested that over 100 people have suffered injuries in the incident.
Train no 18109, which originates from Rourkela in Odisha, derailed 3 kilometres from Sirathu railway station at around 2 pm. Sirathu station falls in the Allahabad-Kanpur central section of the busy Delhi-Howrah route.
The 7 coaches that got derailed included 2 sleeper class coaches, 2 AC coaches and 1 pantry car. S-3 coach has reportedly suffered the maximum damage.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased.
“Akhilish Yadav announces Rs 2 lakh as ex-gratia for Kaushambi train accident & instructs Chief Secretary to provide all assistance,” the CM’s office tweeted.
