Loco pilot injured as miscreants throw stones at Alappuzha-Chennai Express
CHENNAI:
A loco pilot was injured after miscreants threw stones at the
Alappuzha-Chennai Express train near Korattur, 12km away from Chennai
Central railway station, on Monday morning.
Sources said a stone shattered the glass and shards injured the loco pilot. "He drove the train along with his colleague and brought it to Central railway station," said a railway official.
A complaint has been registered with the government railway police.
Miscreants often pick up stones used as ballast on tracks and throw them at the speeding trains on the Tiruvallur route. Trains between Chennai and Bangalore, Mumbai, Coimbatore, Ernakulam and a few places use this route.
Window panes of some airconditioned coaches have suffered cracks after miscreants threw stones at them. "The Shatabdi Express to Bangalore has several cracked window panes because stones were thrown at the train," said a railway official.
It is not easy to change the glass because the coach has to be taken off service. So it is stuck together with a tape to prevent from shattering. The glass is designed in such a way that it won't shatter easily.
