Goods train derails in Dima Hasao

SILCHAR: Five boggies of a goods train derailed between the Lower Haflong and Bagetar stations on the Lumding-Silcharmetregauge section under the NF Railway at 11pm on Saturday.

The empty freight train was on its way to Lumding from Silchar. Though there were no casualties, train services were disrupted for nearly 13 hours. The NFR authorities either cancelled or regulated services of all the trains, including Cachar Express, Barak Valley Express and Agartala Express.

Train services were restored on the 214-km route only at 12pm on Sunday.

Railway police are investigating whether the accident was an act of sabotage by militant outfits active in Dima Hasao.
