On
10.07.2011 Kalaka mail accident near Fathehpur resulting death of 71 passengers
and injured 264, along with many accidents which caused a bad image to
Railways. To check the growing number of rail accidents, the Railway Minister,
Mr Dinesh Trivedi, on 16.09.11 announced the setting up of a high-level Safety
Review Committee.
The
committee, comprising experts in technical and high-end technology-related
fields, will be headed by Dr Anil Kakodkar, former Chairman, Atomic Energy
Commission. Dr N. Vedachalam of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre,
Thiruvananthapuram, Prof Sanjay Dhande, Director, IIT- Kanpur, and Mr G.P.
Srivastava, Director E&I Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre. Mr E.
Sreedharan, Managing Director, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, as members. They
Submitted their report on 17.02.2012, which along with many other suggestions
emphasize the need of eradicating the Level Crossing Gates and Filling up of
Vacancies. “The Committee recommend that all the vacancies of supervisors and staff in safety category are filled up in a time bound manner say within 6 months by leveraging IT
based recruitment systems.”
Committee find Vacancies in LP 7832, Motorman 568, Shunters: 1679, Assistant
LP: 7040 and total Vacancies 1,26,304.
On
22.05.12 16591 humpi Express rammed with Stationary goods train at Penukonda killed 25 passengers caused serious
discussions on Railway safety. AILRSA South, South Western and South Central
Zones jointly organized a Commissioner of Railway Safety march on 07.06.2012
and submitted a detailed memorandum to CRS.
Railway
Board convened a meeting on 12.06.2012 at New Delhi and circulated suggestions
containing 58 recommendations to reduce Signal Passing At Danger (SPAD) cases.

AILRSA demands the Management to implement their own recommendations.
The
Dharna at Hubli on 14.03.2013 in front of General Manager office’ Welcome by

A
representation met General Manager Sri Anil Kumar Mital and submitted a memorandum;
he informed that the memorandum will be forwarded to Railway Board for
favourable actions.
