Improving safe travel first priority, new projects later: Rly

minister of state for Railway Adhir Ranjan Chawdhury today said the Centre was
giving importance to improving safety aspect of train travel and improvement of infrastructure
vis-a vis taking seven new projects immediately.
In a brief chat with reporters
at the airport here on his arrival from New Delhi en route to Puducherry to
flag off a new train service to Mumbai from Pondy, he said acquistion of land
and encroachment of Railway land was the main reason for
railway projects worth about Rs two lakh crore pending. However, steps were
being taken to clear these hurdles, he informed.
