Rail Ministry plans TPWS installation in train engines
Press Trust of India / Varanasi June 02, 2012, 21:15

Railway Minister Mukul Roy has said the Centre is in deliberations with several European countries for procuring Train Protection and Warning System (TPWS) in rail engines to prevent train mishaps.

"Efforts are underway to introduce this technology in train and a final decision in this context would be taken within a month," Roy said here yesterday.
If approved, the TPWS would be installed in 20,000 trains at the earliest, he added.
"Anti Collision Device machine has failed to prevent train accidents. Therefore the ministry is contemplating on the installing TPWS in train engines," Roy said.
TPWS technology has proved successful in Europe, he said adding, the Railway ministry is in discussion with several European nations including France for the project.
Roy was here to meet the injured passengers of Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express which had derailed near Mahrawa Station on May 31.
