Railway Minister Mukul Roy has said the Centre is in
deliberations with several European countries for procuring Train Protection
and Warning System (TPWS) in rail engines to prevent train mishaps.
"Efforts are underway to introduce this technology in
train and a final decision in this context would be taken within a
month," Roy said here yesterday.
If approved, the TPWS would be installed in 20,000 trains
at the earliest, he added.
"Anti Collision Device machine has failed to prevent
train accidents. Therefore the ministry is contemplating on the installing
TPWS in train engines," Roy said.
TPWS technology has proved successful in Europe, he said
adding, the Railway ministry is in discussion with several European nations
including France for the project.
Roy was here to meet the injured passengers of
Howrah-Dehradun Doon Express which had derailed near Mahrawa Station on May
31.
