Railways revenue earning freight for Oct 78.71 MT
New Delhi, Nov 10 : The revenue earning freight traffic carried by Indian Railways was 78.71 million tonnes (MT) during October 2010.
There is an increase of 5.25 MT over the actual freight traffic of 73.46 MT carried by the Indian Railways in October 2009. The increase is of 7.15 per cent, an official release said.
Compared to the previous month of September 2010, the increase is 7.24 MT, a growth of 10.01 per cent.
Significant growth in loading of coal in October 2010 was approximately 9.88 per cent, foodgrains 14.96 per cent, steel 9.91 per cent and Cement 15.28 per cent.
Negative growth, however, continued in the loading of iron ore which has been affected by sanctions imposed in Orissa and Karnataka, it added.
