This drive carried out in two railway stations marks the highest ever collection registered by the Railways on a single day.

BENGALURU: In a non-stop mega ticket checking drive spearheaded by the Commercial department of the Bengaluru Railway Division, 1,604 ticketless passengers were booked and a penalty amount of Rs 5,60,870 collected. This drive carried out in two railway stations marks the highest ever collection registered by the Railways on a single day.

Briefing reporters in connection with the ‘Mega Fortress Ticket Checking Drive’ held on Saturday, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (SDCM), Bengaluru Division, N R Sridharamurthy said, “The drive was conducted from 3 am to 11.45 pm at Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna and Yesvantpur railway stations. Commercial department staff along with staff from all divisions along with the Railway Protection Force sealed all exits at these stations from early morning to late night of Saturday.”

Collecting over Rs 5 lakh and booking 1,600 passengers in a single day marks a personal record for the Division, he said. “For the ongoing financial year (upto June 2018), the Division had already booked 1,31,794 passengers and collected Rs 7.01 crore as penalty,” he added.

The SDCM also furnished these statistics relating to ticketless passengers for the last three financial years: 2014-2015: Rs 10.47 crore collected and 2,44,322 passengers booked; 2015-2016: Rs 12.76 crore and 2,91,076 passengers booked; 2016-2017: Rs 19.02 crore and 4,00,342 passengers booked; 2017-2018: Rs 24.01 crore collected and 4,86,465 passengers booked.
