| Kolkata In a tragic incident, a railway guard was killed at Liluah Rail workshop when a wheel of a goods train accidentally fell on him on Friday morning. 55-year-old Adesh Singh remained trapped under the heavy wheel for sometime when he was rescued by his comrades and was rushed to the local hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Sources in the Eastern Railways said that some wheels were being taken in a goods train with Singh seated at one corner. When the driver of the goods train suddenly slammed the brakes, one of the wheels accidentally slipped and fell on him.
The deceased's family members alleged negligence on the part of the railways and said that when such a huge number of wheels were being taken, it should have been locked.
If they would have been locked then one wheel would not have slipped when the brake was pressed, one of the victim's relative said. A case of unnatural death has been initiated at Belur Government Railway Police.
Menanwhile, in another accident, a person was run over by a truck at Ilambazar in Birbhum on Friday morning. The person has been identified as Morai Mali, alias Moru. He used to work in a hotel adjacent to Ilambazar toll plaza.
