Over 350 railway officers are facing cases of major penalty, the government informed the Rajya Sabha today.

Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain said 251 Group A and 128 Group B officers were facing DAR (Discipline and Appeal Rules) cases across various zones of the railways.

As many as 23 Group A officers of the Northern Railways are facing DAR cases, highest among all the zones.

It is followed by South Central Railway with 21 cases and Western Railway with 19 cases.

With 18 officers facing such cases, Northern Railways tops the list of the Group B officers followed by Western Railway with 15 DAR cases and South Eastern Railway with 14 such cases.

Major penalties include reduction to a lower stage, lower time scale, grade, post or service, compulsory retirement, removal or dismissal.

The minister said most of the officers who face such cases have been posted to non-sensitive posts keeping in view the guidelines of the Central Vigilance Commission.

"Some of the officers are in sensitive posts due to operational necessity in administrative interest and have been barred from dealing sensitive functions like important financial matters, tender, selections and others," the minister added.
