Tension prevailed for a while near Thoppur in the early hours of Friday after an electric locomotive of train number 11022 Tirunelveli – Dadar Chalukya Express hit concrete slabs, suspected to have been placed on the tracks by miscreants. However, no damage was reported to the train and the journey continued after a delay of 40 minutes.
The train had left Omalur railway station, passed Karuvalli and was nearing Thoppur railway station under Bangalore Railway Division of the South Western Railway at 12.40 a.m. when it ran over the slabs.
No damage
On hearing the noise, loco pilot George Peterson stopped the train.
He, along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel, found broken slabs on the tracks and informed the Thoppur railway station. No damage to engine was detected.
The broken slabs were removed from tracks and the train resumed the journey at 1.33 a.m.
The area where the incident occurred is quite remote in the forest, on the Salem – Dharmapuri border.
