Pune: The railway administration has launched passenger trains attached with electric locomotives on the Pune-Daund track on Saturday.

Last week, goods trains with electric engines were introduced on the route. Now the facility has been extended for passenger trains.

The Mysuru-Delhi Hazrat Nizamuddin express (12781) running via Pune was flagged off from Pune railway station in presence of MP Anil Shirole and divisional railway manager B K Dadabhoy.

Electrification of the Pune-Daund section was completed recently. The administration had conducted trial runs and safety checks. The electrified track is expected to bring down travel time and save efforts and time when replacing electric engines with diesel ones. The electrification demand was pending for several years.
