The Rs. 5.5-crore new building of Divisional Railway Hospital commissioned earlier this year with state-of-art facilities will have three additions to doctor strength shortly.
Three specialists will be joining within the next 15 days, Divisional Railway Manager Hari Shankar Verma said on Saturday during a road show to highlight achievements of Salem division in the last two years.
Besides, one Additional Medical Officer has been appointed, and the Chief Medical Officer based in Salem visits the Divisional Railway Hospital in Erode twice a week, he said, adding that eye-specialists were also visiting the hospital.
The hospital with 60-bed capacity has multi-speciality wings, hi-tech intensive care unit, labour ward, surgical ward, operation theatre, paediatric ward and additional laboratories and modern medical equipment. The Railways, he said, was according utmost priority for improving passenger amenities and comfort, and urged the travelling public to cooperate in maintaining cleanliness.
The old lifts were being dismantled for replacement and the escalators would be installed within 12 months, the DRM said.
Camtech system for replenishing water in coaches will be in place in the next two to three months, he said.
Cultural programmes were organised by school and college students to highlight the services rendered by the Railways.
