Hapur: The route of twenty nine trains were diverted and eight others cancelled on Sunday night shortly after eight coaches of Delhi - Faizabad Express derailed nearGarhmukteshwar area in Uttar Pradesh's Hapur region injuring at least 70 passengers today evening.
The injured were immediately rushed to hospitals in Meerut, Ghaziabad and Hapur in buses. However, fortunately there were no reports of any casualty.
According to media reports, the incident took place at around 9 pm today between Garhmukteshwar and Khandadhar stations of the Moradabad division.
The accident of Delhi-Faizabad Express (14206) occurred near the Ganga bridge.
Meanwhile, the Northern Railway General Manager AK Puthia along with senior officials have rushed to the spot.
Speaking to news agency ANI, Indian Railways PRO, Anil Saxena said, “Traffic on both up and down line on Delhi-Moradabad section is affected.”
Accident Relief Trains were also dispatched to the site from Delhi and Moradabad.
Additional beds were made available at PL Sharma district hospital and Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial medical college for any possible emergency.
Meerut district hospital issued an emergency number 0-9410609434.
Traffic on both Up and Down lines on the Delhi-Moradabad section were affected due to the derailment. This resulted in a traffic build-up on NH-24, with many passengers opting to travel by road.
The unaffected coaches of the train left for the destination at around 10:20 pm.
