A train has left Wuhan, in Central China, en route to Lyon, France. It is a mere 7,000 miles and six whole time zones away.
This is the first time there’s been a direct train on this route, crossing most of China, then Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, and ultimately into France, as Xinhua reports.
The train is carrying mechanical, electronic and chemical products, and should take 16 days for this unprecedented trip, which is extremely long. It’s supposed to complement China’s sea trading routes with the rest of the world. As to how it’s going to do that I have no idea.
