SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Sk. Mahboob Basha, Goods Guard with South Central Railway, Guntur, for demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs. 3.4 lakh in the form of a cheque from the complainant on Thursday. He was produced before the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam, on Friday.

The accused posed as a resourceful person and having good contact in the railway, promised to arrange a job (assistant locomotive pilot) to the complainant, an unemployed youth.

He demanded a bribe of Rs. 4 lakh and the complainant had paid Rs. 60,000 in the form of cheque, as an instalment in October 2015, which was encashed by the accused.

No positive response

Thereafter, as there was no positive response, the complainant and his father again approached him and he demanded the second instalment of Rs. 3.4 lakhs.

As the complainant was not in a position to pay the amount and doubting his intentions, lodged a complainant with the CBI, Visakhapatnam.

Upon receiving the complaint, the CBI officials laid a trap and caught Mahboob Basha accepting the bribe by way of a cheque from the complainant in an office room of Sri Sai Srinivasa Jinning Mills, Prathipadu Road, Bonthapadu, Guntur, on Thursday.

According to R. Gopala Krishna Rao, Superintendent of Police, CBI (ACB), Visakhapatnam, complainants can directly approach the CBI office in person or call over the toll free number 1800 425 00100 or email:hobacvskp@cbi.gov.into lodge complaints of corruption.
