Modernisation/upgradation of stations is undertaken according to their category based on earnings of the stations irrespective of their location, on a continuous basis as per availability of funds. Presently, development of stations is taken up under ‘Adarsh Station Scheme’. The expenditure on development of stations under ‘Adarsh Station Scheme’ is generally funded under Plan Head –‘Passenger Amenities’. State/UT-wise and station-wise details of funds allocated/spent are not maintained, however, zone-wise allocation under Plan Head ‘Passenger Amenities’, during the last three years and the current year is as under:-

106 railway stations have been targeted for modernisation under ‘Adarsh’ Station Scheme during the year 2015-16.
