LUCKNOW: A major train mishap was today averted near Mohanlalganj, on the outskirts of the state capital, due to alertness of Prayag-Lucknow passenger train driver when he noticed 50 cm rail track missing.
"The train started from Kankaha railway station and at 2.58 AM near Mohanlalganjthe train driver felt that something hit fuel tank, before the place where the track was tampered with. He immediately stopped the train, thus averting a major accident," Divisional Railway Manager, Northern Railway A K Lahoti told PTI here.
After the train driver informed the station master, railway officials rushed to the spot and found that 50 cm track was cut and the portion was found 100 metres away from the track, he said.
Mohanlalganj is around 20 km from here.
Police has been informed about the incident, Lahoti said.
Meanwhile, Railways have ordered a departmental inquiry into the possibility of sabotage.
