RAIL Vikash Nigam (RVNL), a special purpose vehicle set up by India's National Railway Board to manage electrification projects in the states of Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Telengana, has awarded Isloux Corsán, Spain, three contracts to electrify three lines totalling 563 single track-km.
In Rajasthan, Isloux Corsán will electrify 198 single track-km on the Rani - Swarupganj line, which is part of the North Western Railway's Ajmer subdivision. The contact wire on this line will be set at a height of 7.2m to accommodate double-stack intermodal trains.
On the Hubli division of the South Western Railway, the contractor will electrify a total of 187 single track-km on the Hospet - Kudatini and Toranagallu - Ranjitpura lines, while on the South Central Railway's Guntakal division 178 single track-km will be electrified on the Kudatini - Telengana line.
The engineering-procurement-construction contracts cover 25kV ac overhead electrification, switching stations, traction substations, Scada, signalling, telecommunications, buildings and other associated works.
All three lines will be equipped with electronic interlockings, train detection using multi-section digital axle counters (MSDAC) and a fibre-optic telecommunications network.
