The South Western Railway Passengers’ Welfare Committee has appealed to Railway Board Chairman A.K. Mittal to run some special festival trains to different destinations from the division.
In a memorandum submitted to Mr. Mittal, committee general secretary Rohit Jain has requested for a Bengaluru-Mumbai train via Tumakuru, Davangere, Hubballi, Belagavi and Miraj Junction; a Hubballi-Mysuru train via Davangere and Arasikere; a Hubballi-Bengaluru express via Davangere and Arasikere; a Bengaluru-Mangaluru express via Arasikere and Hassan; and a Hualli-Salem/Erode/Coimbatore train via Davangere, Arasikere, Yeshwantpur and Dharmapuri. Since the occupancy rate is 100 per cent in these areas, the passengers travelling to these places for Varamahalakhsmi puja and Ganesh Chaturthi would be benefited by special trains.
More than eight premium and express trains are running from Karnataka to other States to clear the rush, but not a single train from Mysuru, Hubballi, Bengaluru and Harihara to any part of Karnataka were announced, he pointed out.
It has requested for Bengaluru-Mumbai train via Tumakuru, Davangere, Hubballi, Belagavi and Miraj Junctionand Arasikere and Hubballi-Bengaluru express via Davangere and Arasikere, among others.
