Hundreds of passengers were stranded on various railway stations in Gujarat as about a dozen trains were either cancelled, terminated midway or rescheduled due to heavy rains in Mumbai and breaches on the railway tracks between Palgarh and Boisar stations on Tuesday .

Five trains originating from Mumbai were cancelled and five other were rescheduled or terminated at Borivali stations due to breaches between Palgarh and Boisar.Spokesperson of Mumbai Central division of Western Railway , Sunil Singh said, “The restoration work was taken up on war footing, but we can't predict in case it rains heavily .“

Trains cancelled by the Western Railway include Gujarat Express, Bandra Termi nus-Surat Express, Shatabdi Express, Saurashtra Express and Mumbai-Vapi passenger.While other trains originating from Bandra Terminus including August Kranti Rajdhani Express, Suryanagri Express and Bandra-Bikaner Express were postponed by two to three hours. Karnavati and double-decker trains between Ahmedabad and Mumbai were terminated at Borivali station due to water-logging at Bandra Terminus.

Also, Jamnagar-Surat Intercity Express was sent back from Surat after being named Surat-Jamnagar Intercity Express on Tuesday as the connecting train Surat-Bandra Intercity Express going towards Mumbai was cancelled. Most affected were passengers who travel daily between Vapi, Navsari and Surat for their jobs.Also, those bound to Mumbai were stranded at Ahmedabad, Surat and Vadodara stations.
