At 64, when most people like enjoying their post-retirement life, J Deenadayalu is leading BMRC from one milestone to another. Be it testing of a train or a track, he is the man BMRC turns to during new challenges.
On Thursday , he was on the hot seat of the Metro train that entered the underground tunnel at Minsk Square near the Cubbon Park station for the first time.
“In Indian Railways, I had to drive the locomotive. In the Metro, the
train is driving me around,“ J Deenadayalu told TOI. It was
Deenadayalu's experience of piloting 1,300-tonne trains that helped him
calmly drive the 130-tonne Metro train into the tunnel. While five men
who were in the cabin with him, looked eagerly at the tracks, he kept
calm.
In December 2010, Deenadayalu test drove the Metro between Byappanahalli and MG Road. Initially, BEML had hired Deenadayalu to test the rakes it makes for BMRC. “I have spent 30 years driving locomotives of all models. It is not so difficult to understand the systems of the metro, but then it is definitely all about the confidence of driving these trains. I am indeed lucky to drive such high-tech trains,“ he said.
A resident of Mahalakshmi Layout in northwest Bengaluru, Deenadayalu is now geared up to take the Metro train underground for three days from Friday to Sunday and then test it on the Western corridor between Magadi Road and Mysuru Road from March 16.
