Action sought against railway official
Alleging that harassment by railway officials led to the
suicide of gangman at Tinaighat Prithivi Raj Meena, railway employees
staged a protest outside the office of the General Manager of South
Western Railway here on Wednesday.
It was organised
by the Nairuthya Railway Mazdoor Sangh affiliated to the Bharatiya
Railway Mazdoor Sangh and the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh.
The
protesters alleged that Permanent Way Inspector Kishan Lal and his
assistant Raju, a troylleyman, were responsible for the suicide of Meena
and he had mentioned both their names in his suicide note.
They
raised slogans seeking action against those responsible for the suicide
and also against the railway authorities for what they termed as their
“failure to prevent harassment at workplace”.
The protesters also demanded action against the head of the department as he too was morally responsible for the death.
They
said that a team led general secretary of NRMS N. Prabhu and other
office-bearers had visited the spot on Sunday and they came to know
about the harassment by Mr. Lal and Mr. Raju, an office-bearer of SWR
Mazdoor Union.
The protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the SWR General Manager.
