CHINA HELPS TO RUN BULLET TRAINS:

New Delhi: Close on the heels of India joining hands with Japan for the first bullet train project, another pact was signed on Thursday with China to take up feasibility study on a stretch to be identified later.
Also, China will help railways to run a semi-high speed train (160 kmph) on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore stretch.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping oversaw signing of a memorandum of understanding in the rail sector. Railway minister V. Sadananda Gowda was also present at the time of signing of the MoUs. India and China will also collaborate in modernisation of railway stations, besides enhancing mutual cooperation in the sector.
The MoU was signed by Railway Board chairman Arunendra Kumar and administrator of China’s National Railway Administration Lu Dongfu. It envisages heavy-haul transportation training of Indian railway personnel and setting up of a railway university in India.
On the 160 kmph semi-high-speed rail cooperation on the Chennai-Bengaluru-Mysore stretch, China will conduct design and survey for the specified sections.
China will also impart training to railway personnel on speed-raising exercise. China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group will be coordinating with the High Speed Rail Corporation, a subsidiary of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited for the project.
