SCR Deploys RPF Men at Level Crossings to Prevent Trespassing
HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway (SCR) has deployed personnel of
the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at identified manned level crossings,
especially at busy gates, to prevent trespassing. The exercise is aimed
at counselling road users on the dangers of trespassing the track when
level crossing gate is closed.
In this connection, the SCR has launched a special, week-long drive to curb the menace of trespassing at closed manned railway level-crossings and crossing of railway tracks at unauthorised locations leading to injuries and loss of lives.
During the campaign, RPF personnel will be posted at LC gates with high traffic density to caution road users against trespassing. Two-wheelers will be prevented from passing through a closed railway crossing gate.
Public awareness campaigns, through various media, are also being undertaken to educate road users on the risk of trespassing railway tracks. After the campaign, RPF personnel will continue to conduct surprise checks regularly to nab violators.
Any person found guilty will be liable for prosecution under the Railway Act, 1989 which entails imprisonment for six months or Rs 1,000 as fine or both.
