‘Budget only for corporate sector’
Tapan Sen, MP and National General Secretary of Centre
for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), said that only the corporate sector
would profit, going by the budget that was presented.
Mr. Sen said on Saturday that the United Progressive Alliance’s policies had resulted in rising costs and unemployment.
The
present government, he added, was keen to continue on the same economic
path. He cited the Centre’s importance to foreign direct investment,
private-public partnership, changing Labour Laws to help the corporate
sector, tax concessions to investors, cut in public expenditure among
others.
“No step has been taken to reverse the
economic policy. This will not augur well for the country, which is
already reeling under an economic crisis,” he said. “The budget’s
approach is towards over-burdening the people,” he charged.
He
said that the CITU council would discuss the budget and plan a movement
at various levels. All the central trade unions would jointly struggle
against the economic policies that would prove disastrous to the
country, he added.
On Friday, .K. Padmanabhan,
president of the CITU, criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party government
for continuing the UPA’s legacy.
“After the ten-year
rule of the UPA, the Congress was ousted and NDA came to power. But it
is very clear that it has been pursing the Congress policies,” he said.
He
also slammed the Tirnmool Congress government headed by Ms. Mamta
Banerjee for what he termed as ‘unleashing a reign of terror’ on the
leaders and workers of Communist Party of India – Marxist in West
Bengal.
General secretary says BJP government is following same policy of UPA
CITU will plan a movement against the economic decisions
