Railway minister Mr. Mallikarjun Kharge said, there would be no boost in rail charges during the 2013-14 financial despite rising diesel charges.
Mr. Kharge said, "There is no suggestion to hike rail charges again this year and the railways will absorb the additional charge of diesel cost, which has been going up marginally.”
Passenger charges were improved across the board from Jan 22 by then Minister Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal to mobilize an additional INR 6,600 crore per year after successive Railway Ministers in the past kept these unchanged for a decade.
The Minister's response came following another boost - for the sixth time this year - of 50 paisa per litre in the retail diesel charges by the state-run oil marketing firms across the country due to steady weakening of rupee against dollar.
Mr. Kharge, who hails from north Karnataka, is on a visit to the city to review pending railway projects across the state.
