Railway bribery scam: Sunil Kumar Gupta, wife taken on boards of firms

CHANDIGARH: Even as Sunil Kumar Gupta, the auditor for Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal's sons' firms was nominated as a director at the state-run Canara Bank, he and his wife were handed out lucrative profiles in companies run by Bansal clan.

Gupta was made a director at Bansi Raunaq Energy Group, owned by Bansal's son Amit, in 2006.

Got good profiles in Bansal clan firms

Even as auditor Sunil Kumar Gupta was nominated as a director at Canara Bank, he and his wife were handed out lucrative profiles in companies run by Bansal clan.

In 2007, he was made a director in the firm of Bansal's nephew Vikram, called Triveni Projects and Resorts Private Limited. Vikram Bansal, a son of Pawan's brother, is a co-director along with the minister's tainted nephew Vijay Singla's firm JTL Infra Limited, according to registrar of companies (RoC) documents.

Vikram had, on Monday, courted controversy after it was found that he had registered himself with JTL Infra on Pawan Kumar Bansal's address.

The documents with RoC have also revealed that Gupta's wife Pooja Gupta too is a director of Vijay Singla-floated MVM Metal and Alloys Private Limited. She was made a director in 2010, two years after Singla's firm received a Rs 40 crore loan boost from Canara Bank. Chandigarh BJP leaders said that there was conflict of interest by the auditor employed by Bansal's sons and his nephews.

"How can an auditor allow himself and his wife to be directors on the companies of the same promoters and owners whose other firms are audited by him," asked BJP leader Satyapal Jain.
