Use of CNG/LNG in Train Operation
One DEMU Power Car (DPC) of Shakurbasti Diesel Shed has been converted to CNG-diesel dual-fuel mode and is running successfully for the last few years. Three contracts have been awarded for CNG conversion of 50 numbers of DPCs.

The expenditure of conversion works has been slow on account of non availability of spare power care for conversion. Now, it has been decided to provide CNG-diesel dual-fuel mode at ICF, Chennai on new DPCs being manufactured, so that making available DPCs for conversion is not a bottle-neck. This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
