ECoR's cleanliness drive: 9435 fined, Rs 6.2 lakh collected
"During the cleanliness and anti-spitting drive in ECoR jurisdiction, 9435 persons have been fined so far for spitting and littering in Railway premises and an amount of Rs 6,21,400 collected as fine," ECoR said in a release.
Spitting and littering entails a fine of Rs 100 at 'A1' Class Stations like Bhubaneswar, Puri and Visakhapatnam, Rs 50 at 'A' Class Stations like Bhadrak, Brahmapur, Cuttack, Jajpur-Keonjhar Road, Khurda Road, Palasa, Rayagada, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram and Sambalpur and Rs 30 will be charged at rest of the stations under ECoR jurisdiction.
The fine may be doubled shortly in order to stop spitting and littering and can be enhanced upto Rs 500.
In the new Rule 2012 of Indian Railways, no person shall throw or deposit litter in any occupied and unoccupied railway premises or the carriage in authorised places or cook, bath, spit, urinate, defecate, feed animals/birds and repair or wash vehicles, it said.
Anybody found washing utensils/clothes or any other objects or keep any type of storage in any railway premises or paste and put up any posture or write and draw anything in any compartment, carriage of railways, premises there of without any lawful authority or indulge in defacing railway property in station buildings, platforms, railway tracks and other property belonging to railways including trains shall be punished and will be imposed with fine.
